We specialise in the development and manufacture of seasonings, flavourings and colour blends for use in the food industry. With more than half a century of experience, the company has built up considerable knowledge in the formulation and application of savoury seasoning and flavouring systems for use in most types of food product.

The company was originally founded in 1921 under the name of Underwood & Barker. It was based in London and sold a variety of sundries to the hospitals in the London area. In 1948 the company was purchased by Felix Rothon and moved to Billericay in Essex where the mission was changed from hospital supplier to food industry supplier. From this location the company built its customer base and expertise, gradually expanding the facilities into three factories within the Billericay industrial estate.

In 1976 the company changed its name from Underwood & Barker to Unbar Rothon, thus retaining the "Unbar" trade name and reflecting the company ownership. In 1993 a decision was taken to form a new company to trade into the food service sector resulting in the launch of World of Spice early in 1994. This company now operates on two adjacent sites in Billericay.

In 1996 the company purchased new premises and consolidated most activities onto a single site, retaining the original building for the manufacture of those products which are not compatible with the main product range. Today the company is directed by Felix Rothon's two sons, Bill and Patrick, supported by a dedicated team of sales, manufacturing, quality and development personnel.
